York Minster Cathedral is so much that Lindesfarne wasn't, a huge, eventually Gothic, cathedral that survived the reformation. An active building that has been engaged with a growing, bustling city for more than a thousand years. For every part that seems missing ( So.Many.Empty. Niches all over the building) there is an element from a building long gone: Roman, Celtic, Jute, Viking, Norman. So much of the original stained glass. It is an active building, hurt and rebuilt over and over, used every day. #continuity #context #connection
